The Shenzhen Nongke Orchid

Have you ever seen a flower that scientists created? It’s definitely possible, and that's our flower of the month. The Shenzhen Nongke Orchid is a green and pink flower that is known for its rarity and beauty. The flower was created in Shenzhen, China and took eight years to cultivate. This orchid has a delicate and elegant appearance. Its petals boast beautiful varying shades of yellow and green. Like many orchids, the Shenzhen Nongke Orchid requires specific conditions to thrive, down to precise temperature, humidity and light.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that this rare flower is very expensive. In fact, the Shenzhen Nongke Orchid is one of the most expensive flowers ever sold. In 2005, one plant was auctioned for 1.68 million yuan, or approximately $200,000. Factoring in its rarity, price and beauty, the Shenzhen Nongke Orchid is considered a status symbol among collectors!
