Summer Time Weddings

The summer is upon us and so is wedding season! Beach and beach themed weddings are in full swing due to the warm sun and cool ocean breezes that make summer one of our favorite wedding seasons. Here are some tips and tricks to make sure you have an outstanding summer wedding and successfully handle any obstacles such as weather, bugs, location, and general wedding day nerves. When it comes to outfitting a wedding and its party, it is necessary to consider the possibility of extreme heat or a cold front. Light and airy fabrics, such as satin, chiffon, and lace, are generally the way to go for an outdoor or summer time wedding for the bride and her bridesmaids. Not only is it fitting for the time of the year, but it also will ensure that everyone is more comfortable. It is a bit harder to accommodate the groom and his groomsmen in the heat, so try to pick suits that are made of breathable fabrics such as linen, cotton or seersucker. Starting with the ceremony, when it comes to a beach wedding, or any outdoor wedding, the weather can be unpredictable, so don’t rule out a backup plan. Weather can always cause issues, but it is said that rain on your wedding day is good luck. If it does rain, maybe the clouds will part, leaving a beautiful rainbow and a stunning sunset for the background. Think positively! Consider renting a tent for the day or renting a venue that has the ability to move the ceremony indoors. If it’s not rain, it may be heat, so provide cold refreshments for your guests before they take their seat for the ceremony. If it’s too chilly, consider telling people to bring jackets or have a basket of blankets for people to grab before the big event! Depending on the location that you have chosen, you need to consider that some onlookers, other than your wedding guests, may also be in the area. With a beach wedding, most beaches are public property, so anyone can access them. Consider using a venue that has a private beach or private outdoor space separate from the general public. It’s all about the little details when it comes to a summer wedding. With some many flower options, textures, patterns, and materials to work with, the possibilities are endless. Be sure to choose flowers that can withstand the heat; no one wants wilted arrangements. For your seating placements, choose something other than the standard card to put your guests’ names. Sea glass, sand dollars, sea shells, and succulents are just a few new trends that can be considered for this wedding season! There are many outdoor options for the cocktail hour and reception. Holding the cocktail hour by the pool, the beach or on the patio can be a nice transition from the ceremony location before heading to the dinner. Tiki bars are a hit when it comes to “hydrating” your guests. If you want to get a little wild, consider some alcoholic shave ice for the cocktail hour! Whether you have buffet style or butler style hors d'oeuvres, try incorporating some summer elements into the food or the atmosphere. Caterers can be extremely talented and creative when it comes to designing the look of the tray. Create palm trees out of carrots and green peppers or carve designs into pineapples for a fun spin on simple snacks. For the dinner, consider the delicious summer time options for food. There are many more fresh foods such as fruit, vegetables and, of course, all types of seafood! It may be wise to plan a light and refreshing meal. Five course dinners can be very nice and elegant, but a summer wedding is generally not the place. When it comes to dessert, how about including some classic summer treats such as an ice cream station or popsicles in addition to the traditional wedding cake? When it comes to planning the perfect summer wedding, there are a lot of factors that need to be taken into consideration compared to other times throughout the year, but the payoff is tremendous. Pulling off, what appear to be, an effortlessly perfect summer wedding will leave your guests buzzing all night and for years to come!
