Jade Vine

Jade Vine

Our flower of the month is the Jade Vine, a stunning and unusual plant native to Phillippines’ tropical rainforests. Weirdly, it belongs to the pea and bean family, meaning the Jade Vine is a relative of common garden peas and beans. This plant is known for its striking, claw-shaped flowers that drape in large, pendant clusters. The flowers are a vibrant turquoise or jade-green color, marking them uncommon in the plant kingdom.

Ready for another unusual fun fact about these plants? In its native habitat, the Jade Vine is pollinated by bats. Because the color and nectar attracts the bats, the bats are able to cause cross-pollination when they brush against the flower clusters. This plant is highly received by horticulturists and garden enthusiasts for its uniqueness. In Filipino culture, the Jade Vine is a symbol of beauty and natural wonder!
