Hi there all of you Garden of Eden Flower Shop (and chocolates and gifts) fans! We’d like to welcome you all to our new Feature Flower Friday! Each week, we will be feature a different type of flower, the meaning behind them and the reasons you would give or present them to someone else. Since it is finally December, we plan to do something a little special for Feature Flower Friday due to the holidays. Each week, we’re going to focus on a different traditional Christmas flower, and explain some of the meaning and symbolism behind it. This week, join us as we discuss poinsettias! Poinsettias are a beautiful flower that you are bound to see a lot during this holiday season. However, despite their timely appearance with the jolly man in red, what to the poinsettias actually mean and symbolize? Well, we are able to draw the meaning of the poinsettias by looking at an old Mexican legend. The story goes that on Christmas Eve, a little girl was looking for something to gift to Jesus as a present. Since she could not find anything nor afford an expensive gift, she picked some weeds off the side of the road, and presented them to the nativity scene. When she placed them down, the weeds burst into beautiful red flowers, which we know them by today. Due to this legend, the meaning of the poinsettia is hope, love, and the faith in a new beginning. It is so fitting as to why these flowers come out during the holiday season, as it truly is a season of love and hope. Before you put out your poinsettias this year, we highly encourage you to read one of our earlier articles that was laden with tips on taking care of these plants. This flower is extremely delicate, and must be cared for in a certain way to make sure that they stay fresh until the holidays.
