Feature Flower Friday: Orchids

Each week, we will be featuring a different type of flower, the meaning behind them and the reasons you would give or present them to someone This week, we’re talking about the Orchid.  Enjoy! Orchids are one of the most highly coveted ornamental flowers, with a wide range of symbolism attached to them.  Traditionally, orchids symbolize love, beauty, luxury, and strength, and in some instances, they can send a message of exotic seduction. In addition, orchids can also be associated with virility, as they were in Ancient Greece.  The Greeks believed that if the father of the unborn child ate copious amounts of large orchid tubes, the child would come out a boy.  On the other hand, if the mother ate small orchid tubes, the baby would be a girl. While modern science has basically disproved this theory, the symbolism still remains.  Orchids go to speak for rare and delicate beauty, and can be a great addition to any flower arrangement you may make.
