Feature Flower Friday: Irises

Hi there all of you Garden of Eden Flower Shop (and chocolates and gifts) fans! We’d like to welcome you all to our latest Feature Flower Friday! Each week, we will be featuring a different type of flower, the meaning behind them and the reasons you would give or present them to someone This week, we’re covering the Iris.  Enjoy! Besides being the name of a great song by the Goo Goo Dolls, the iris is a flower with a heavy degree of symbolism attached to it.  For starters, the flower served as a symbol of the French monarchy during the Middle Ages, and were thought to be the work of the goddess Iris during the height of the Ancient Greek empire. That being said, an iris can stand for royalty, faith, valor and wisdom.  However, the direct meaning can be tweaked depending on the color. Blue irises symbolize hope and faith, whereas yellow symbolizes passion.  White, along the lines of most flowers, stands for purity and innocence.
