Feature Flower Friday: Hydrangeas

Feature Flower Friday: Hydrangeas

Hi there all of you Garden of Eden Flower Shop (and chocolates and gifts) fans! We’d like to welcome you all to our latest Feature Flower Friday! Each week, we will be featuring a different type of flower, the meaning behind them and the reasons you would give or present them to someone This week, we’re covering the hydrangea flower.  Enjoy! The hydrangea flower is a cup-shaped flower that comes in a wide array of different hues, and one that is guaranteed to brighten up anything from a room to someone's day.  First discovered in Japan, the hydrangea namesake stems from the Greek words "hydor" and "angos", meaning "water" and "vessel" respectively.  Combined, this roughly translates to "water barrel", which is very appropriate given the hydrangea's extreme thirst and cup-like shape. While the namesake may be widely fitting, it is with the meanings and symbolism where the hydrangea hits home.  At the bare basis of it, the hydrangea can represent heartfelt emotions, gratitude, wanting to develop a deeper connection between two people, prosperity, beauty, and heartlessness.  Quite the catch-all, isn't it? Instead of guessing what the hydrangea you have received can mean, the specific color of the flower can offer a better picture.  A pink hydrangea is linked to love and all the emotions that come with it, such as selflessness, happiness, and romance--perfect for weddings.  A blue hydrangea can represent a darker meaning, such as regret, turning down a romantic proposal, or asking for forgiveness.  White, along with many other flowers, conveys purity and grace, but can also represent bragging or boasting.  Finally, purple can reveal a desire to form a deeper connection with someone, or symbolize abundance and wealth. No matter what meaning you want to convey with a hydrangea, just know that they would look great in your next arrangement from us.  Simply specify that you would want a few included, and we would be more than happy to oblige. From all of us at the Garden of Eden Flower Shop, we hope you have a great weekend!
