Feature Flower Friday: Cockscomb

Feature Flower Friday: Cockscomb

Hi there all of you Garden of Eden Flower Shop (and chocolates and gifts) fans! We’d like to welcome you all to our new Feature Flower Friday! Each week, we will be feature a different type of flower, the meaning behind them and the reasons you would give or present them to someone else. This week, we’re taking a peek into the cockscomb! The cockscomb, also known as the coxcomb, is a vibrant flower resembling that of a rooster (hence the namesake).  Generally, these flowers are used in centerpieces to provide volume and definition, but they still carry a great deal of symbolism with them. Typically, the cockscomb represents playful affection and silliness.  This flower is one that is not supposed to be taken seriously, and provides a lighter tone when placed in an arrangement.  In addition, the flower comes in four different colors, yet carries no fragrance with them. However, one fun fact about the cockscomb is that it is a highly praised crop in West and Central Africa.  There, the cockscomb is cultivated as a cereal crop and a leaf vegetable, and thus is very common in African cuisine. While the cockscomb is a lighthearted flower to gift to someone, they still look fantastic in a playful arrangement or to brighten up a room with their illustrious hues.  No matter what you plan to use the cockscomb for, know that us here at the Garden of Eden Flower Shop are here to help.  Simply let us know that you would like a few included in your next arrangement from us, and we would be happy to oblige. Have a great weekend, Garden of Eden fans!
