Feature Flower Friday: Chrysanthemums

Feature Flower Friday: Chrysanthemums

Hi there all of you Garden of Eden Flower Shop (and chocolates and gifts) fans! We’d like to welcome you all to our latest Feature Flower Friday! Each week, we will be featuring a different type of flower, the meaning behind them and the reasons you would give or present them to someone This week, we’re covering the chrysanthemum flower.  Enjoy! Chrysanthemums, or "mums" as they're commonly referred as, are a brightly colored flower that comes in all sorts of hues.  Stemming from the Greek words "chrys", meaning gold, and "anthemon", meaning flower, the chrysanthemums are a flower with a whole lot of symbolism attached to it. Overall, chrysanthemums can stand for a lasting friendship, rest and recovery, loyalty, love devotion, and joy.  Quite a diverse group, eh?  The colors of the chrysanthemum take the symbolism a step further. A red chrysanthemum, as like many other flowers, is a symbol of pure and fiery love.  A white one brings messages of truth, purity, and loyal love.  Finally, a yellow chrysanthemum stands for slighted love. In addition to all of these symbolisms, the chrysanthemum is the official flower of the month of November, and the 13th wedding anniversary flower.  The flower also represents the Emperor of Japan and his family and has had a significant foothold in ancient Chinese culture.  In fact, a long standing Chinese tradition says that a single chrysanthemum petal at the bottom of a glass of wine encourages a long and happy life. Whether you plan to use a chrysanthemum to sit at the bottom of your next glass of wine or just to brighten up your room, just know that we are here to help.  The next time you order an arrangement from us, just ask us to throw in a few chrysanthemums, and we would be more than happy to oblige. Enjoy your weekend, Garden of Eden fans!
