Feature Flower Friday: Carnations

Feature Flower Friday: Carnations

Hi there all of you Garden of Eden Flower Shop (and chocolates and gifts) fans! We’d like to welcome you all to our latest Feature Flower Friday! Each week, we will be featuring a different type of flower, the meaning behind them and the reasons you would give or present them to someone This week, we’re talking about the Carnation.  Enjoy! Carnations, a flower typically given on Mother's Day, carries a rich history, strewn with different symbols.  In general, a carnation symbolizes thoughtfulness, but the color of the carnation can have polarizing meanings, especially when coupled in with the context of a situation. A light red carnation symbolizes adoration and admiration, but a deep red carnation symbolizes a deep, passionate love.  White carnations stand for pure love, and are often displayed upon the passing of a mother.  However, the pink carnation is the one which carries the most significance, and arguably the heaviest symbolism, as they stand for a mother's undying love and affection.  According to legend, pink carnations are said to have appeared on the Earth from the Virgin Mary's tears, which is why they carry the heaviest symbolism. Generally, carnations are given for Mother's Day, but they can also be presented for a teacher's gift, or just to someone special on a whim.  Regardless of color, giving a carnation shows the receiver that you care about them, and that they have laid a heavy impact on your life. If you feel like you need a carnation bouquet or arrangement, know that Garden of Eden Flower Shop is here to help!  Just give us a call, tell us a little bit about the person you are giving them to, and we'll whip you up a special arrangement, making sure to match the colors to your message!
