Feature Flower Friday: Asiatic Lily

Hi there all of you Garden of Eden Flower Shop (and chocolates and gifts) fans! We’d like to welcome you all to our new Feature Flower Friday! Each week, we will be feature a different type of flower, the meaning behind them and the reasons you would give or present them to someone else. Join us this week, as we cover the Asiatic lily! The Asiatic lily is a flower belonging to the overarching group of lilies in the world today, but their height and large blooms separate them from all the other lilies—the can grow up to six feet, and have a large, bell-shaped bloom accompanying them.  Sure, these flowers are gorgeous, but the real beauty lies in the meaning. Generally speaking, the Asiatic lily is a symbol of purity, virtue, and love.  These meanings stem from ancient Greek mythology, where they believed that the lily came from the milk of the goddess Hera.  In the Western tradition, lilies are commonly associated with the Virgin Mary, representing her innocence and purity. Now, the color of the lily can greatly impact the meaning of the flower.  For example, a white Asiatic lily emphasizes innocence and purity, whereas a red one shows compassion and virtue through love.  However, a pink one symbolizes long-lasting love and traditional romance. The Asiatic lily is a beautiful flower, and would be a great gift to a special someone in your life.  No matter who they are, just stop on in today, talk to one of our florists, and see how we can make them smile. Enjoy your weekend!
