Tip of the Week: Oranges, Lemons, and Limes--Oh My!

Hey there all of you Garden of Eden fans out there and welcome to our latest edition of “Tip of the Week,” where we provide all of you some tips and tricks to keep your indoor flowers and outdoor gardens looking spectacular all the year through! This week, we showing you all the uses for citrus fruit in your garden! We all know that fruit is absolutely delicious to eat, but did you know that your fruit can have a practical application in your garden?  With so many different kinds out there, your imagination is the limit when using fruit to help your garden out. Citrus fruits, such as oranges and lemons, work great to ward away aphids and mosquitoes.  Simply rub the peel on the plant you want to protect, or better yet, cut a slit in a peel and slide it over the stem, and reap the benefits of an all-natural, non-chemical deterrent.  In addition, by placing citrus peels in a shallow dish, you can attract all sorts of pollinators, ranging from the majestic butterfly to the diligent bumblebee. Not only that, but citrus peels will also work wonders in your compost pile.  Since they contain large amounts of sulfur, magnesium, calcium, and nitrogen, they can give your pile the boost it needs.  So the next time you peel an orange, think twice before chucking those remains in the trash; they just might do your garden some good.
